The meth lab and meth use epidemic has spread across the continent in recent years affecting urban and rural communities alike. The Michigan Department of Community Health instituted guidelines for the clean up of clandestine drug laboratories on June 5 2007. The requirements recommend that a Certified Industrial Hygienist or CIH conduct the site assessment and develop the clean up plan for the property if determined hazardous. The decontamination procedures are less clear as to how the contractor reduces the level of contamination, however they must reach levels of 0.5ug/100cm2 or below to be deemed acceptable. Check local health departments, counties and/or cities for additional clean up requirements.
Fortunately, there are contractors in Michigan that are utilizing the effective, environmentally friendly, cost efficient decontamination solution, Apple Environmental Meth Remover® – they cover Detroit, Grand Rapids, Warren, Sterling Heights, Ann Arbor, Lansing, Flint, Dearborn, Livonia, Westland, Troy, Farmington Hills, Kalamazoo, Wyoming, Southfield, Rochester Hills, Taylor, Pontiac, St. Clair Shores, Royal Oak, Novi, Dearborn Heights, Battle Creek, Saginaw, etc. The Meth Remover product makes meth clean up of property interiors including the furnace and duct work possible, it is no longer necessary to remove the drywall, cabinets, fixtures, or non-porous flooring to effectively decontaminate a property. This revolutionary product, Apple Environmental Meth Remover®, starts by breaking down the bio-film on the property surfaces and penetrating to the subsurface by altering the PH level. The product aids the process by bringing the contaminants to the surface and bonding the contaminants and dirt to a surfactant to allow for easy removal of contaminated particles. This formulated detergent aids the decontamination process to enhance the physical removal of methamphetamine particles with its aqueous alkaline solution. Apple Environmental Meth Remover® is non-toxic, bleach free, phenol free, and environmentally friendly for the peace of mind of you and your clients. Apple Environmental Meth Remover® is the only meth decontamination product company that also completes meth clean up services, so we understand the clients’ needs and concerns. Established in 2007, the Cleanup of Clandestine Drug Laboratory Guidance require contractors to complete OSHA HAZWOPER training. They recommend that the consultant who conducts the preliminary site assessment be a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). Negative air containment is required during decontamination process. Porous materials including carpet/carpet pad, non-washable household items/furniture, and acoustical ceiling tiles are to be removed and disposed of in a Type II landfill. Textured “Popcorn” ceilings may sealed with a spray-on asbestos encapsulating product. All other surfaces need to be double washed and rinsed (minimum). Encapsulation of porous structural surfaces of cement or brick is required and allowed on other surfaces, it does not appear to indicate when this is done but implies prior to post testing. In order to achieve clearance post samples must be 0.5ug/100cm² or below, it does not specifically state that clearance sampling needs to be completed by a CIH. The guidelines seem to be specific to meth labs and do not address user sites.
